Grasshopper teaches people the basics of coding.
The team needed an innovative, accessible, and engaging user experience for the first version of their mobile app.
We partnered with the founders for a series of design and research sprints. By constantly engaging our initial users, we gained valuable insights that helped us fine-tune the product.
After much iteration, we landed on a gamified experience with bite-sized lessons focused on the fundamentals of coding.
In preparation for launch and a big marketing push, we created a website to introduce Grasshopper to the world.
After we launched, we realized that folks eventually would need to graduate from the mobile app to a desktop coding environment. From there, we set out to create an interface that would support the advanced curriculum of the desktop experience.
My engagement with the Grasshopper team was long and winding. We revisited the core product and extended functionality to meet the evolving needs of users many times.
In 2019, Grasshopper graduated from the Area 120 incubator to become an official Google product within the Education pillar, and our collaboration continued until the product was sunsetted.
